Shed Some Light On Your Beach Decor and Enter A Free Giveaway For A $70 Gift Certificate!

If you follow my blog - you 1) know I love the ocean and 2) know that I love the shabby clean beach chic look. I love exploring indoor and outdoor space and I am constantly looking for coastal lighting to "brighten" up rooms - while continuing the flow of design. Here are some fabulous lamps I have stumbled upon in my search. Notice that you can incorporate more modern table and floor lamps with cleaner lines while still maintaining the integrity of your coastal decor.  Also remember that modern can include more abstract elements as well... and don't be afraid to incorporate color!

If you don't prefer the modern lines of the lamps above there are still the classic designs that are timeless... yet still fresh...

Let's not forget the quintessential light house lamp that will fit right in upon any seaside side table...

Floor lamps are always a great option if you have created a cozy reading nook or if you have chair but no side table.  This particular paper lantern floor lamp reminds me of hanging those Japanese paper lantern lights around your deck or in trees for ambiance on summer nights.  I love the look of a tripod lamp behind a couch that is kiddie-cornered - this opens up space while maximizing it at the same time.

When putting a room together it is also important to indulge on the accents. I like the look of a sisal rug to define a space (not to mention they are affordable) - and what the best part is that the sand falls right though to the bottom - just roll it back and sweep it up! A glass blown vase or two is functional and beautiful when set on a coffee table - and look best when filled with plump hydrangeas or your favorite flower.  You might want to even fill vintage bottles with shells and sea glass that you have collected on your beach combing journeys! Don't forget to give those bare walls some love with nautical art or photography!

Sea Glass Light Boxes...

I started making 3D light boxes last year and so far they have been a hit!  These take a long time to make - but are well worth it.  The subtle low watt lighting illuminates the light box... creating a soft glow - perfect for a night light!  Each light box is signed & dated... and is a great gift for friends and family!

Transforming a Small Place into a Cool Space

When I decided to move my older daughter in the upstairs bedroom - we needed to give it a bit of a make over and style it for a teenager. The room is narrow and long with a small, small closet that is also used as a doorway to the storage space/attic. In the closet we put hanging storage caddies to create more storage and organization in a tight space. On the walls - We used Benjamin Moore - Aurora Paint to get that one coat look. We ended up having to go over the yellow twice as the aqua wasn't covering enough.

I picked up a vintage vanity and repainted it - putting new hardware on all furniture. With all the trim and floor repainted an off-white - we painted the furniture to coordinate. Throw in a few storage items and accents and presto - a fun and functional room for teenage girl! It has a beachy, surfer vibe to it... hang ten!

It's Time To Deck Your Walls! ~ Meet The Boardwalk Artist Series ~ Featured Artist ~ Wendy Russell of Artrussell

Many thanks to Wendy for such a great bio! Next week another Boardwalk artist will be featured - so don't forget to stop by!

"I'm a native New Englander, having been born and raised in southern Connecticut. My family lived within walking distance of Long Island Sound and I spent the summers of my youth at the beach swimming, playing in the sand, boating and chasing after ice cream vendors. Bliss. Ocean themes have naturally become important additions to my portfolio of paintings.

Art has always been an essential part of my life. After graduating from college with a degree in Interior Design, I was determined to give city life a try. I moved to Boston and after working in the city for a while, I realized that although I'd always love to visit cities, living there was not for me. I tried the Massachusetts suburbs and worked on a visual merchandising team for a major department store chain. The work was varied and creative, but also very physical. I carried more sofas and ladders than I care to remember. In the meantime, I had taught myself to spin and weave and eventually, left my job to pursue my art and craftwork.

The country life began to beckon and I moved to Vermont in the early 1980's. Three children, lots of gardens, and piles of artwork later I still awaken each morning wondering what subject might catch my eye and become the focus for my next painting. My husband and I consider ourselves very fortunate to have found a home on a gem of a lake in this beautiful state.

My motto: There's an artist in each of us. Trust in yourself to let go and create what you need to create."

Take a stroll down The Boardwalk next week for another featured Boardwalk artist... until then...

Fun Friday Find #3 - Taylor's Eclectic Shop

How cool are these finds for the day - wow... to think what you can make out of paper.... the mind wanders. I am in awe when I come across such art... love these vibrant colors!

The light seems to just illuminate like stained glass windows of a church.... little hues of mosaics to make your mouth water... could be on your end table for $175.

Mmmm.... here is another beautiful piece that could be yours for $125 - love these two colors together - it has a very modern island feel to it!

And to think you could have these tiny mosaics envelope your body... here is a little finger candy that would be fun to wear for only $25.

Well - I think you have seen... there is no going wrong with Taylor's Eclectic Shop and the many pieces of art they have to offer!
